Scripture Passage: “This is the day which the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalms 118:24

Dear Friends,

I had plans for today.  Those plans were dependent upon sunny skies. What I needed to do cannot be accomplished in the rain.  I need at least three days back to back with no rain – not even a shower.  I had one plan, the good Lord had another. I had good intentions, He had a sovereign will.  I was going to do something good, He said what He was going to do would be the best.  I told Him I was getting behind, He told me I was actually ahead according to His time table.  In the end, I realize He is always right.  The best thing I can do is to surrender my will to His.  Jesus did and He won the victory – by the way of the cross.  I do not know where the path is going to take me today, but as long as He is walking it with me I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Too many people live in the failures of the past.  They remember yesterday and hold grudges that leave them seething in bitterness.  They refuse to be glad so every day becomes a burden rather than a blessing.  Others live in the faded glory of yesterday’s successes.  They remember the good ole days when “they used to could.”  Good memories are to be treasured not worshipped.  The question is – what have you done lately?  Many individuals talk about what they are going to do tomorrow.  They plan for the future as if it is a guaranteed reality.  Some talk about what they are going to do but never get around to it.  They may start with good intentions, become easily distracted, and jump from one project to another never completing any of them.  They may have worked hard, but they have not worked productively.  It is always about tomorrow, so today becomes blended in with wasted yesterdays.

That leaves us with today.  This is the day the Lord has given.  I did not get to choose the weather, but I do get to choose how I will spend the day.  If He had not made the day rainy, you would not have gotten this article.  Three people in the nursing home would not have gotten a visit.  Background research for future messages would not have taken place and I would not have gotten to rest.  It is turning out to be a GREAT day.  It is the one He has given, so I will rejoice and be glad in it.  Which day do you choose to live in and how do you choose to live it?

In Christ,

Pastor Johnny
