Scripture Passage:  “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:  He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.”   Exodus 13:21-22

Scripture Passage:  And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.  But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.  Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”  And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.  Mark 10:13-16

Scripture Passage:  “I will praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O, my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.  My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou has redeemed.  My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame that seek my hurt.”  Psalms 71: 22-24

Scripture Passage:  “Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him naught; and he cry unto the Lord against you, and it be sin unto you.  Deuteronomy 15:9

Scripture Passage: “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”  I John 3:16

Dear Friends,

I have purposefully used a passage of Scripture today to catch your attention.  Did you notice that this is John 3:16?  I John 3:16 that is.  Do you see the parallel?  God loved us so much that He gave his Son to die for us that we might have eternal life.  Because God loves us, we ought to love one another.  Because Jesus laid down His life for us, we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  Do you think this is a coincidence?  I think not.  Let us go a little further.

Scripture Passage:  “He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house; but he that hates gifts shall live.”  Proverbs 15:27

Dear Friends,

Webster says greed is an acquisitive desire beyond reason.  To be greedy is to be eagerly desirous especially of wealth.  The synonym of greed is covetousness.

Scripture Passage:  “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  Psalms 119:105

Dear Friends,

The Word of God is so precious.  It is precious because it is a person.  It is precious because it is God breathed.  It is precious because it is the exact representation of who God is.  The Word of God is compared to a two-edged sword.

Scripture Passage:  “And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean line cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and departed.”   Matthew 27:59-60     “And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun.”  Mark 16:2       “Be not affrighted: You seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: He is risen; He is not here: behold the place where they laid Him.”   Mark 16:6

Dear Friends,

Happy Resurrection Day!  We serve a risen Savior who has conquered death, hell, and the grave.  We need never fear death again, or ever surrender to the lies of Satan.  Because He Lives – We Live.  Because He Won – We Win.  Because He is coming again we live in great hope and expectation.  One of my favorite Resurrection sermons is by S.M. Lockridge entitled: “It’s Friday – but Sunday’s Coming.”  Many people have taken credit for this poem, so I do not know who originally wrote it.  I just know Lockridge concluded his sermon with it and you can still hear it on You Tube today.  Here is a printed copy for you to read and enjoy today.  Remember Satan thinks he has you defeated today, just as he did Jesus on the Friday of crucifixion.  Today is just Friday – but Sunday’s Coming!  Hallelujah!

Scripture Passage:  Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then said I, “Here I am; send me.”  Isaiah 6:8

Dear Friends,

The past few days have been interesting.  I have been a part of several committees down through the years that have been responsible for filling empty positions in churches, associations and now the Tennessee Baptist Convention. Technology may run the world, but it still takes people to operate the technology and make decisions about the future.

Scripture Passage:  “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.”  Proverbs 3:27

Dear Friends, A young lawyer came to ask Jesus a question in order to test Him.  The question was “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”  Jesus ask, “What does the law say?” The young man answered, “Thou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”  Jesus’ reply was, “You have answered right, do this, and you will live.”  But the young man willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”  From that question Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan to show that a neighbor is anyone that you have the opportunity to do good to regardless of ethnicity, gender, or social status.  Luke 10:25-37   Our story today relates very well to Solomon’s teaching in Proverbs 3:27.
